Meet the Seller: Melina Baby

I would like to introduce you the lovely Melina from Melina Baby. She is a regular of the handmade family. You must check out her gorgous knitted hats and beautiful dresses when you come on Saturday.

1.      Who is Melina Baby?

Me, Melina Amos.

2.      Tell us about your business name?

I couldn’t think of a brand name so thought I’d just use my name. Melina is a Greek name meaning “Honey”

3.      How did you become Melina?

I have always sewed, my mother had her own label and workroom when I was growing up and I wanted to be just like her. I used to make my dolls clothes and some interesting garments for myself. As an adult I started making soft soled leather baby shoes for friends and it all grew from there. I have an addiction to fabric so my little business is a great outlet for me.

4.      What do you make?

Designer children’s wear

5.      What your favourite product and why?

My bamboo cloth nappies. I am really passionate about cloth nappies. I started making nappies when a friend asked me to make some with some changes to what was on the market. When I had my daughter I changed my pattern again because she is quite big and I needed a one size fits all that could fit her past 8 months (none of the other brands did) but would also fit little wee ones. I have had the most amazing reviews and feedback about my nappies.

6.      What inspires you, when you design your products?

Functionality. All my products are beautiful but I wanted each and every one of them to be really useful and I also wanted them to last.

7.      What’s currently on your dining table?

An iron, a cold cup of tea, a sketch book and a draft of my latest pattern – a women’s dress.

8.      Where do you work from?

I do my knitting and designing in the lounge/dining area in front of the telly, I sew in the garage, it’s the biggest room in the house and I don’t have to worry too much about keeping it tidy.

Special Offer

Melina Baby is offering her Boys T-shirts for just $25 for Saturday Market ONLY

You can follow Melina Baby on her Facebook page

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday 10am til 2pm, Kaurilands School, 109 Atkinson Road, Titirangi 1064

Meet the Seller: The Little Card Factory

I would like to take this time to introduce you to a very talented young lady, Emma. She offers you some of the most original cards I have seen in a long time. You can even purchase cool, funky note books plus awesome wrapping good too....

So read on and get to know her a little better....

1.      Who is The Little Card Factory?  Just me for now.  Originally from the UK, I moved to NZ in 2008 to finish my Visual Arts degree, I fell in love with this beautiful country and decided to stay.

2.      Tell us about your business name? My mum always encouraged me to make cards when I was younger, she called me ‘her little card factory.’  When I told her I was making cards again, she ended an email with ‘Lots of love my little card factory’ and that’s when I decided it had to be my business name.

3.      How did you become The Little Card Factory?  I’m sure it would be from my mum encouraging me when I was younger, but it wasn’t until I made my man a Valentines card in 2011 that it started to take form.  He asked why I wasn’t making more, and so I started making some and attended my first market in July 2011.

4.      What do you make?  Cards, cards and lots more cards!!  I have other little products available at markets, such as gift tags, and have just started making gift wrapping kits, but my main focus is cards.  They are all typed on an old typewriter, I think this makes them so unique, each one is special.

5.      What your favourite product and why?  I would have to say my favourite card is the ‘Tucked inside this card, is love from afar’ with a map of NZ.  It was one of my first cards, and is so popular.

6.      What’s currently on your dining table? A mess!!!  I have had a very productive couple of days with the launch of my gift wrapping sets.  There is bakers twine, gift tags, string, paper, my laptop, my light box, pens, pencils and everything in between!!

7.      Where do you work from?  I work from home, at the table.  I dream of the day that I get my own space that I don’t need to clean up at the end of the day, my own personal crafty den!

You follow The Little Card Factory on their Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/thelittlecardfactory

And you can purchase on the website too http://www.thelittlecardfactory.co.nz

Special Offer
The Little Card Factory is running a special for market day too..... Purchase any gift wrapping and get a free card worth $5.50

Look forward to seeing you on Saturday 11th August 10am til 2pm, Kaurilands School Hall, 109 Atkinson Road, Titirangi

Meet the Seller: Arcadia

Meet the Seller: Hello Arcadia
Arcadis offer you some of the most amazing organic products you will find. I have rather messy curly hair and have struggled to find a nice serum since coming to New Zealand. Well, Arcadia had this for me... Yeah... and I just loved.... plus it really works!!!!

1.      Who is Arcadia?

Arcadia is me I suppose.  It is my belief that effective, natural skin care should be available to those who need it, without the pharmaceutical side effects and high price-tags.  It is the wonder of nature, and of the powerful healing forces that many plants contain, and their abilities to help our bodies to heal themselves.

I have a Bachelor of Health Science (Comp Med) and Advanced Diplomas in both Medical Herbalism and Naturopathy.  I have used my knowledge to create creams and skin care products that are gentle enough to use on babies, but powerful enough to work quickly and effectively to ease the problem.  I make the creams from raw ingredients from start to finish, and love every minute of it!

2.      Tell us about your business name?

In ancient Greece, Arcadia was both a mythical place of natural beauty and harmony as well as being a real place you could find on a map.   It was a place of connection with nature which experienced bountiful harvests and was said to be a paradise of rolling hills and fertile fields and pastures.

Arcadia fitted perfectly with my vision of all natural, excellent quality and potent creams based on carefully selected herbs, and ethically sourced ingredients.

3.       How did you become Arcadia?

I was mesmerized by the healing power of herbs from a young age and in the time spent studying for my degree I was fascinated by the science, but Arcadia itself was born of my love for my children, and my desire than when they fell over, their scrapes and bruises would be treated with the best Mother Nature had to offer.

It grew organically.  My friends and family began requesting pots, then began placing orders for their friends.  I found there was a real need for effective, ethical and completely natural creams that were affordable for real families.

4.      What do you make or offer?

I hand-make a range of completely natural skin and hair care products, including luxurious soaps.  I have something for everything.  From aches and ails, to weekend pampering.  I’ve got Bach Flowers for mental and emotional upsets, herbal tinctures to heal your body, and a hair care system to treat your soul.

5.      What your favourite product and why?

I like, and use all of my creams, but I’d have to say the one I reach for the most is my Eczema Cream.  It is just so useful in so many situations.  It stops anything itching, heals chapped or cracked patches, cools burnt or inflamed skin, helps take the sting out of scrapes, is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, and I use it on my red-headed son in place of sun screen.  If I didn’t make it, I honestly don’t know where I would find anything like it.  It certainly is unique and also happens to be my best seller.

6.      What are your products made from?

I knew my creams would only be as effective as the ingredients I used in them, so took pains to make sure the suppliers I chose could be trusted to deliver the best.  My creams are hand made using the cold emulsion method, and contain cold pressed vegetable and nut oils (organic where possible), nut butters, herbal extracts, infusions and essential oils, beeswax and spring water.  As the environment and the planet are very important to me, I made sure that all of the ingredients I use are ethically sourced, and that my packaging is all recyclable.

7.      What’s currently on your dining table?

My dining table is positioned in the hub of my home, so is used as a work-space for the whole family.  Right now there is a colourful child’s drawing with crayons scattered around it, a large glass bowl filled with fruit, and a box filled with my latest order of oils from one of my suppliers, waiting to be put away in my stock cupboard.

8.      Where do you work from?

I work from home.  I make all of my creams and soaps in my kitchen, and keep my stock and supply of ingredients close at hand.  My pots and containers have been relegated to live in the garage, as I ran out of room in my stock cupboard.  It has been essential that Arcadia fits in with my busy life as a mother of two, so I am so grateful that I can do everything from home.

Come and meet Arcadia and their amazing products this

Meet the Crafter

Take a look at this wonderful sisters working together making the most amzing jewellery. Read on and find a little more about them.

Who is Koro Accessories?

Koro Accessories was started by two sisters, Karina and Rosina. Before we had the idea of crafting and designing our own jewellery, we've always found ourselves discussing how it'll be nice if this ring has this colour or that necklace has this design instead when we browse through jewellery. Then the idea came about that instead of wishing, we could actually make it come true.

What do you make?

Necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings made from glass domes and antique brass settings, featuring floral, birdie, butterflies themes and contemporary designs.

What inspires you when you design your products?
Inspired by our love for vintage style and the beautiful elements we see in nature, our designs revolve around birds, floral patterns and bright colours. We are constantly thinking of new ideas to express and share the lovely things we see, people we meet and experiences we have everyday through our crafts and designs

Where do you work from?

We work mainly from our studio at home in Central Auckland, overseeing the beautiful view of the Waitemata Harbour which refreshes our mind and keeps the ideas and inspirations coming.

So pop in on Saturda and meet these amazing sisters for yourself.

Don't forget about our giveaway. You can go into the draw just by making a purchase at the market on Saturday.
Be in with a chance to win a fun gift basket.
